Variegated and Multicolored Flosses

Welcome, Hitty Girls!  Are you ready to get started with our Magic Carpet Project? Once you receive your kit in the mail, you can find the tutorial links here:

MAGIC CARPETS EVENT INDEX: TUTORIALS

Signups are closed, but you’re welcome to make your own kit and join us. If you’re making your own kit, you can see the supply list at the bottom of this page.

What about the PIF? Your kit will contain enough materials to make numerous rugs. If you’d like to Pay it Forward by sending a rug to another participant, you must email me a photo of the finished rug you wish to send by the end of August.  Those who have a finished rug ready to send will receive the name of another participant to mail to.

SUPPLY LIST FOR MAKING YOUR OWN KIT:

EMBROIDERY FLOSS -Preferably variegated or multi-colored, along with some solids – Just one skein is enough

TACKY GLUE -I HIGHLY recommend Fast Grab if you can get it because it’s much less ‘wet’ than the standard formula

COTTON QUILTING FABRIC -for backing the rug – at least 2.5 by 2.5 inches square

WOOD TOOTHPICKS -or similar to spread the glue

OPTIONAL- PLASTIC/CARDBOARD BOBBINS- or DMC “threadbow” bobbins to keep your floss neat. You can usually purchase bobbins anywhere embroidery floss is sold, but you can also make your own from scrap paper. The plastic bobbins we’re using are simply flat plastic cards around which the floss is wound for storage, after the skein is opened.

EVERYONE WILL NEED:

SMALL SHARP SCISSORS -as used for embroidery

LONG MEASURING TOOL -such as a yardstick

A CHILD-SIZED MUG WITH A HANDLE -or something similar in size, shape and weight that can be suspended from the floss.
